  6. You may also download a self-installing version of Decode Shell 
  7. Extension from our web site, http://www.funduc.com. The self-
  8. install version will install the program into the directory of 
  9. your choice and create an uninstall option.  If you are not 
  10. comfortable editing the Windows registry, we suggest you use the 
  11. self-installing version for the convenience of the uninstall 
  12. function.

  14. Advanced users: The files you see here in the present zip are 
  15. those that are installed by the self-install.

  18. Win95/98/NT Installation:
  19. -------------------------
  20.  
  21. 1 - Unzip DECEXT.REG, DECEXT.DLL, README.TXT, DECFAQ1.HTM, and 
  22. INSTALL.TXT into the subdirectory of your choice.  We suggest 
  23. using 
  24.      C:\TOOLS\DECEXT
  25. although any subdirectory will do.
  26.  
  27. 2 - To enable the shell extension you will need to merge the file, 
  28. DECEXT.REG, into the Windows registry.  If you used 
  29. C:\TOOLS\DECEXT as the subdirectory in step 1, DECEXT.REG can be 
  30. merged as is.  To do this, open an Explorer view of 
  31. C:\TOOLS\DECEXT, right click on DECEXT.REG, and select "Merge".

  33. If you used another subdirectory or path in step 1, you will need 
  34. to edit DECEXT.REG before merging it into the registry.  Open 
  35. DECEXT.REG with a text editor such as notepad.exe and adjust all 
  36. lines containing the string C:\\TOOLS\\DECEXT\\ to the 
  37. subdirectory you installed the program into.  Note that you must 
  38. double the \ characters.  For example, if you unpacked the archive 
  39. into the subdirectory D:\FUNDUC\DECODE you would replace the 
  40. instance of C:\\TOOLS\\DECEXT\\ with D:\\FUNDUC\\DECODE\\.  Once 
  41. you have finished editing DECEXT.REG, merge it into the registry 
  42. as described above.

  44. 3 - That's it.  On some computers you may need to close any open 
  45. Explorer folder/file views and reopen them to activate the 
  46. extensions.  In most cases, however, you can begin using them 
  47. right away by right clicking on a file or folder.

  53. 1 - Back up your Windows registry (recommended).

  55. 2 - Edit the Windows registry and delete the registry keys found 
  56. in DECEXT.REG.

  58. 3 - Delete the subdirectory you created in step 1 of the install 
  59. instructions above.
